Iraq’s former Minister of Justice, Dr. Malik Dohan Al Hassan convicted of Forgery
A Clerk at the Al Kark court in Baghdad disclosed today, December 16 2007, that Dr. Dohan Al Hassan has pleaded guilty for forgery charges he was accused of before 2003. Dr. Dohan was accused of forging documents to allow him to buy Dr. Kazi Al Hariri’s house in Baghdad. Dr. Kazi is a physician who was jailed and then executed during the regime of Saddam Hussien. Dr. Kazi, who worked for Al Yarmouk Hospital in Baghdad, was accused by the former regime of smuggling a hand gun and ammunition in order to assassinate Saddam Hussien during Sadam’s visit to Al Yarmouk Hospital. Dr. Kazi was then jailed and executed for charges of attempting to assassinate the president Saddam Hussien then. Dr. Kazi Al Hariri’s wife and his two children were able to escape Iraq and settled in London, UK. Dr. Malik was familiar with Dr. Kazi Al Hariri plight and knew Dr. Kazi house was abandoned. Dr. Malik forged all documents that were needed to allow him to sell Dr. Kazi Al Hariri to him without paying for it. Papers forged included power of attorney, ID cards, tax papers, and all necessary documents needed to sell the house from Dr. Hariri to Dr. Malik. Dr. Malik then sold the house to his older son Anas. The house then was resold to Anas’s son to cover the transaction. The forgery case remained intact until Dr. Malik was confronted with all facts in 2006 when Dr. Kazi AlHariri’s older son filed a lawsuit against Dr. Malik. Dr. Malik finally, in December of this year, agreed to plead guilty for the charges in return to keep the case confidential.
This is the second conviction for Dr, Malik this year. On October 28 2007, Dr. Malik was convicted of taking Ministry of Justice property and was sentenced to Jail for one year and had him pay a fine at the same court, however, because of his old age, he the jail since was waived.
